Digital Habits: Mail
Email app for Mac, iPhone, Windows and Android built with ❤️ by the Digital Habits Team
Email for people who have given up on email
There is too much of it, and it works nothing like the messaging apps you use all day. Digital Habits: Mail shows your email like a chat, cuts the clutter, and lets you read one thing at a time.
Coming to:
Email that reads like a chat
Threads as bubbles, people instead of piles, and one thing on screen at a time.
Five things that make the difference
Email threads shown as chat bubbles
A conversation is laid out the way a messaging app lays one out: each message a bubble, the quoted history folded away. No more digging through nested replies to find what was actually said.
Group emails by sender
Ten messages from the same sender don't become ten emails in your inbox. In the by-person view, everything still open with one correspondent sits on a single page, and what can be done to all of it at once is said in words above it.
Make anything a non-distracting full screen
Turn any part of the app into a distraction-free full screen with one click: only the thread you are reading, only the message you are writing, or only the inbox.
Pop a thread out, old-school IRC style
Pop a conversation out into its own always-on-top chat window: just you and that person, with nothing else from the inbox in it. Reply from there, and put it back when you are done.
Stop email fetching when you want quiet
Pause fetching for an hour, until tomorrow, until Monday, or until a time you pick. It works per mailbox, so your work email can go quiet at the weekend while everything else still comes in.
…and more!
Out of office from the settings
Pick the dates, write the message, done. Per mailbox.
Snooze emails
Hide an email until later today, tomorrow, the weekend, or a time you pick.
Simple contact lists
Name a list, add people, done. It becomes a tab above your inbox.
Filter lists on a schedule
Make a list the default tab at set times, e.g. only the people you want after 8pm.
How to get started
Four steps, and you are up and running.
Install it
Get it from the Mac App Store, the App Store on iPhone and iPad, the Microsoft Store, or Google Play. Coming soon.
Connect your mailboxes
Open Settings and press Connect Gmail or Connect Outlook. You sign in with Google or Microsoft, and your mail is read straight from your device. Add as many mailboxes as you like.
Pick how you read
Switch between By thread and By person with the two buttons at the top. In Settings, choose where the open thread sits and how big the text is. Click the expand arrows on any pane to make it full screen.
Quieten it down
Press the filter icon to make a list of the people who matter, and set it as the default tab after hours. Press Live to pause fetching, and snooze whatever can wait.
Source available and privacy-first
Digital Habits: Mail reads Gmail and Outlook directly from your device. Messages stay in a local database, and nothing goes through a server of ours. The code is published so it can be read and checked.
